BLOOM

Don’t go through it, Grow through it

The goal for Bloom was to write a collection of poems about love, but life started to curb stomp me into oblivion. What changed the trajectory of the focus was the circumstances occurring around me. It was a process of internal reflection while looking outwardly and understanding how fickle T.I.M.E. can be.

It was constant reminders of what it means to live a life and it made me think. How many people will I help during my lifetime? What is the legacy I will leave behind? Simply, what is my purpose?

Throughout my four years at Michigan State University I could not avoid asking those looming questions. However, I stopped to smell the roses in the garden, picked my head up and continued to move toward my dreams.

Plant the seed.

help it grow.

  • Front Cover

It was a journey getting to this final cover. I’ve grown and experienced much since Oh Sweet Melancholy , so I wanted to put all of what I learned from classes into this book. From the writing and editing to the photography and design.

I found some things around the house, borrowed my mom’s camera and backdrop, then started to brainstorm the set up. In the book, the concepts of blooming and time are prevalent and I wanted convey that in the cover art. To the point where they are items pictured that are mentioned in poems.

  • Back Cover

Fun fact: This was the original design that inspired the art direction for the book. With only a hand full of poems written and a vague idea of the concept, I figured working backwards might alleviate the stress of creating the cover. Then after 3 months of overnight shifts and dreary days, Bloom finally had a chance to pollinate minds.

In retrospect, I used the saying “Did You Stop To Smell The Roses” to serve as a reminder for the reader to appreciate both, the rose and their own existence. Because life can become fleeting at times.

The drafting process took almost three weeks to come to the final cover design but the growth was worth it

the pollination

Each poem is held with a deep reverence so my heart flutters whenever a person supports. thank you for reading, listening, supporting and taking your t.i.m.e. to stop.
