“it is okay to be lost in space.”
— Oh Sweet Melancholy 2019
“Oh Sweet Melancholy” is the title of my first self-published book of poems. My goal going into 2019 was to write a poetry book and apply what I learned from classes. I was able to create the art direction, design, and tone based on the theme. The concept is focused on the stages relationships: the talking, the honeymoon phase, the break up, and the aftermath. Definitely a great read for Valentines season.
Front cover
The cover is designed to act as this window into the mind. It is a way of looking in while I’m looking outwardly to the viewer.
The deep stare and two faint reflections are meant to express overthinking and contentment.
essentially, I wanted it to feel as though the subject was pondering the poems in the book.
back cover
This was one of my favorite designs for Oh Sweet Melancholy.
I wanted something that would draw a persons attention and keep it for a second.
From afar, it seems like small red dots, but up close it is a scrambled phrase: “it is ok to be lost in space”.
It serves as both a take away statement and introduction to the theme; hopefully it intrigues the viewer enough to get a copy.
